Editorial
Welcome readers of the first official issue of Cadernos GEPE Magazine.
After the Pre-launch issue, we can say that we have entered a new era: the post-pandemic era and this era brought to the fore the experience of face-to-face relationships, interrupted by the lockdown period, plus the possibility of using the emerging resources of IT Technologies which enable, in the academic field, hybrid meetings: remote and in-person.
Humanity, in the post-pandemic era, after the traumatic experience of the humanitarian crisis that placed us all in a state of extremely high vulnerability, today appears more mature, but also still convalescing from the established panic and, for this very reason, in need of new reflections that can contribute to characterizing this new era with more solid, truer relationships, freer from prejudices and disvalues in the sense of creating a new coexistence, based on values that can concretely contribute to the creation of a new sociability, more emancipated and supportive .
In this context, the possibility of face-to-face international meetings within the scope of Social Service emerged and the Federal University of Pernambuco was privileged to host the Meeting of the Board of the International Association of Schools of Social Service, in July 2022, in the city of Recife, inaugurating the practice of hybrid meetings in which representatives from various Social Work schools around the world could participate, in a purposeful and hopeful interaction in this resumption of activities, in the search for a “new normal”.
In this sense, the theme of Internationalization served as inspiration for this issue of Cadernos GEPE Magazine, which brings to light the lectures given by the entity’s distinguished professors, presenting and analyzing significant aspects of the history of Social Service in their respective countries, the challenges, crises and the hopes of the theory and practice of the profession, especially with regard to professional training.
Thus, the first articles in this issue of Revista Cadernos GEPE are written by professors Annamaria Campanini, president of IASSW/AIETS, who gave a lecture on Italian Social Service, as she is an Italian social worker; by Professor Barbara Shank, secretary of IASSW/AIETS, whose lecture was on the history of Social Services in the United States; by Professor Tan Tiong, treasurer of IASSW/AIETS, who presented a speech on Social Work in Singapore. These first articles make up the Veterans section, due to the renowned and recognized role that the three speakers represent for the entity and for the history of World Social Service. The lectures were transcribed in the original, in English, and translated into Portuguese in coherence with the thematic proposal of the Magazine, which is proposed as a vehicle for the universalization of knowledge and communication, offering the diversity of languages as an element of articulation between social workers of Worldwide.
Within the scope of the theme of internationalization, we currently find the challenge facing Social Service and social policies and human and social rights, which is the advancement of the extreme right in the world. To talk about this challenge, the Magazine presents, in the Senior Section, the article by Marina Gondim, who is doing her post-doctoral research in the UFPE Postgraduate Program on the topic, and Alexandra Mustafá, creator of this Magazine, who also is a scholar of the subject and addresses the theme of the Right-wing International and its threats to the Ethical-political Project of Social Service and the Societal Project, with a view to contributing to the debate on the advancement of the right-wing international and capitalism throughout the world and on how to nullify the strength of both to provide the conditions for the implementation of the corporate project where there will no longer be oppressed and oppressors.
In the line of Internationalization, the Magazine also presents the article by Gisele Anselmo, professor of Social Service at the Federal University of Paraíba, Salyanna Souza, professor of Social Service at the Federal University of Espírito Santo and Alexandra Mustafá, professor of Social Service at the Federal University of Pernambuco, on a comparative study between Income Transfer Programs in Latin American countries, such as Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina, during the pandemic period, highlighting the relevance of such programs for containing poverty and misery in these countries.
Next, in the Iuvenis Section, there are articles authored by social workers engaged in the master’s and doctorate programs of the Postgraduate Program in Social Service at UFPE, respectively, Mirella Vilar and Camila Lira, who deal with relevant aspects that deserve full attention with regard to the international right, which are ideology and religious conservatism, and social aesthetics that impose themselves as a factor of class domination and manipulation of the masses.
Finally, Cadernos GEPE Magazine, in this issue, in the Iunores section, brings the article authored by Luiz Carlos de Oliveira Júnior and Matheus Vinycius Gomes that closes the theme of Internationalization with a flourish, bringing the synthesis of their Final Paper Course that focused on the process of Internationalization of Brazilian Social Service and the history of the International Association of Schools of Social Service – IASSW/AIETS, which makes us reflect on the role of this entity in uniting schools from all over the world and the need for expansion of Brazilian Social Service relations beyond the Latin American continent.
We wish you a great read and a deeper understanding of the theme of Internationalization with the certainty that we are contributing to laying the foundations for an engaged and organic participation of Brazilian Social Service in World Social Service.
The Editors.
