Ubuntu Annual Lecture (Fundo yaUbuntu) is organised towards the end of each year by the Africa Social Work and Development Network (ASWDNet) and the Association of Schools of Social Work in Africa (ASSWA) to share Africa’s rich knowledge with the world. We invite students, academics and practitioners around the world to attend, not only those from Africa but from any continent.
Africa has developed hundreds of theories, models and frameworks suitable for social work and development, including the Tree of Life Model developed by Ncazelo Mlilo, South Africa (Lecture 1). Africa has its understanding of social issues, including social norms, the theme of lecture by Professor Paul Bukuluki, Uganda (Lecture 2). The big question is, why are most of these models and understandings underutilised in Africa and globally. Why does Africa look outside for theories, models, frameworks and understandings to inform its research, education and practice? Come join us in our 2nd Ubuntu lecture to get answers to these and other questions, and to ask your own questions.
The major benefit of attending includes building your confidence to use Africa’s knowledge (philosophy, theories, models, frameworks and understandings) and networking.
2023 lecture theme: Valuing, creating and using Africa’s theories, models, frameworks and understandings in social work and development work.
