IASSW definition on Clinical Social Work

IASSW definition on

Clinical Social Work

This is the IASSW definition of Clinical Social Work, which was approved by the IASSW Board of Directors at the Porto Board Meeting held in June 2023. The Clinical Definition Taskforce wishes to thank our colleagues for their dedicated and considerate feedback on this important initiative.

Developing a definition of Clinical Social Work is extremely complex, and we appreciate that there might be some national and/or regional contextual realities that are not reflected.

We, therefore, encourage national and/or regional amplifications that are in accordance with the spirit and intent of this Statement. We intend the document to be dynamic and evolving, and we would appreciate your feedback upon applying the definition in research, education, and practice.

Please send your responses to Prof. Dixon Sookraj, Chair of the IASSW  Clinical Social Work Definition Taskforce.
